Ehem... a Margaret Atwood announcement

A quick public service announcement for any Margaret Atwood fans. The BBC's spoken word station, Radio 7 has made a 10 part series of her ground breaking novel, The Handmaid's Tale.

So far the first four are available on BBC iplayer, keep your eyes, or ears, peeled for the rest!

Now all I need is an excuse to leave work, go home and spend the next five hours on my sofa, pot of tea at hand and HUGE imnotonadietanymore slice of cake... do people still get shingles??

  1. I will have to listen to this. I read The Handmaid's Tale a year ago, and although prepared (and wanting) to fall in love with it, it didn't quite capture me as much as I wanted it too. I am willing to give it another go though and will have to remember to listen to this on iplayer!

  2. I know what you mean! It's definitely one of those books you are Supposed To Like... we'll see when I get to it on the shelf if it's an easier read the second time around.

Kazuo Ishiguro's 'Never let me go' is based on a similar theme and I found it much easier to get into. Maybe worth a try?

(and thanks for commenting - you're the first on my new blog!)

  3. I've not read 'Never Let Me Go', although it's a book that I have picked up from somewhere and is patiently waiting to be read. Oh dear reading blog is wonderful but it does remind me that there are so many wonderful books that deserve my attention. If only I had more time in the day :D I look forward to following your blog :)

  4. That is amazing - I will definitely look out for it - I did a feature on Margaret Atwood at Page Turners last week, she is one of my favourite authors.
